The thinking is that those who’ve had firsthand experiences will not have sufficient incentive to share those experiences unless they are legally entitled to capture personal value from their firsthand accounts of what happened. The intellectual property that’s found in words is essential because they tell stories and encourage thoughts that inspire awareness and change. Copyright law does not cover ideas and information themselves; but it does cover the form or way they are expressed.
